DAVID BROOKS WINS COVETED “GREG WELCH SPIRIT” AWARD AT GREG WELCH MEMORIAL IASCA EVENT IN CLARKSVILLE, GEORGIA
October 18th, 2008 – The Greg Welch Memorial IASCA Event in Clarksville, Georgia was a great success, drawing over 100 competitors in the IASCA, MECA and car show events.
Every year, Event Organizers Tim and Alison Brown produce this event in memory of Greg Welch, a long time friend and IASCA IdBL competitor. Greg’s wife Cinda attends the event to present the “Greg Welch Spirit” Award to the competitor whose spirit and willingness to give to others emulates shines above the rest, as Greg’s spirit did during his time with us. Greg passed away in 2005; an avid IdBL competitor, Greg saw car audio competition and its members as a family and was one of only a few who truly had a passion for helping others in our sport.
This year’s recipient of the award was David “Brooksie” Brooks of Kathleen, GA, a Pro Class SQi competitor, who has embodied the spirit of fun, sportsmanship in competition. Upon receiving the award, Brooks wrote to the Brown’s and IASCA “Thanks so much... it completely surprised me. I mean, I know what that award is about and I guess I never thought of myself as “that guy”… you know? Doggone made me well up while I was on stage… not very manly I reckon, but like I said… it caught me off-guard…You guys rawk!”
“This is the second year for the event and award” said Alison Brown “The competitor who wins it is not chosen by the staff, but by their peers. It’s the other competitors who tell us who is most deserving of the award. The recipient of the award has to show the same spirit as Greg did; big hearted, warm, caring and helpful to others; passionate about what he did for others and helping the industry to grow. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind when it came to choosing Brooksie as this year’s winner.”
IASCA Director Moe Sabourin said “I first met Dave at the Motorsports Nationals IASCA event in Atlanta. After only a few minutes of chatting with him, I could tell he possessed the same passion and spirit for what we do that many of us have, but his enthusiasm and excitement for car audio competition was above and beyond what we normally see. He joins a select few who fill that description; Daryl Trammell, Virgil Williams, Jonathan Mallet, Tony Pasquale… IASCA wishes him the best in competition and congratulations for receiving the award.”
